"CHICALOTE" CLAY BY MÓNICA FIGUEROA
Mónica Figueroa (Mexico City, 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Oaxaca, Mexico. Working primarily through painting and drawing, her practice explores existential questions, emotional landscapes, and the ways women have been represented throughout history. Her imagined worlds bring together hybrid figures, organic forms, and elements of nature to propose sensitive, transformative and deeply anti-patriarchal narratives.
Figueroa’s work has been exhibited in Mexico, Spain, the United States, Japan, Austria, Romania, and Slovenia. She is a three-time recipient of the Jóvenes Creadores grant from Mexico’s National System for Arts and Culture and has published three artist books of drawings, further expanding her distinctive visual language.
